Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Svetlana Polyakova The word Dating is making a buzz among the different masses of people all over the world. Dating in todays world is all about the real world. There are thousand of people who search on the net for online dating services. Similarly Russian dating is taking the people of Russia by a storm. Russian dating is in great demand, as people like to find their matches online. Russian dating services are a way to help two different people meet each other. There are many Russian dating sites specially designed to help two Russians meet. Today online dating is more into demand as compared to offline dating. Though most people meet each other through social gatherings, friends, and relatives and through family gatherings. However it is online dating that is making more off the buzz today as compared to offline dating. Russian men and women are open-minded and are available for correspondence. Online dating services gives Russian men and women to meet and establish relationships with most beautiful people in the world. There are millions of attractive and good-looking girls and boys in former USSR. This includes Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Estonia, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania and Kazakhstan. Russian dating services Considering the craze for dating by the Russian people there are many Russian dating websites that offer a whole range of services with the only goal to make your way to your beloved shorter. Online dating provides an opportunity to Russian men and women to find a right date and accordingly call on for a relationship. Why Russian women are not attracted to Russian men as compared to foreign men? The people of Russia have a very peculiar nature. They are more into fashion and make it a point to look good wherever they go. Especially Russian girls put lot of efforts to have a good complexion, hair and looks. They like to wear attractive clothes and make their presence felt wherever they go. They like to attract opposite sex and want to look the best. Considering the demand to look good to attract opposite sex there is no doubt that Russians have a high thirst for dating. It is generally seen that Russian women like to have foreign husbands. It might sound strange but this is the fact. If the Russian womens are looking for conservative values and look forward to having families they might find many Russian men as well. Then what is that attracts Russian womens to foreign partners. The Russian women have always complaint that Russian men are laid back and cannot hold the responsibility to be good husbands and fathers. It is seen that Russian women are more attracted to American men as they give family the first priority overall. Many Russia women find dating with Americans more wise. If you feel that you are lonely you can always signup with an online dating service and add some colors to your life. It would be advisable to try on with a reputed dating service even though their fees are high they offer value added services to their customers. They can help you find pleasure and establish a relationship with any women you choose here. Locating Excellent Cheap Wedding Favors

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Shaunta Pleasant Ask anyone who has planned or hosted a wedding in the past several years, and you will most likely hear that the cost of weddings has gotten completely out of control. Many weddings today can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and that does not even count the cost of the honeymoon! == Shop Wisely And Never Giving Up Quality To Save A Buck == With wedding costs this high, many brides to be and their families are looking for practical advice on how to trim costs without sacrificing the quality of the celebration. After all, no one wants a wedding that appears cheap or cheesy, so it is important to shop wisely, and to never give up quality to save a few bucks. One place where you can combine low cost and high quality is in the choice of wedding favors. There are actually quite a number of cheap wedding favors that look quite beautiful and elegant. If you shop around carefully, you should be able to find some beautiful, elegant, and cheap wedding favors for your special day. == Wedding Favors That Include Food == Among the least expensive, but most appreciated, wedding favors, are those that incorporate food. Whether you choose a handsome tin filled with fresh baked cookies, an inexpensive basket full of fresh baked brownies, or a plastic champagne flute or wine glass filled with fine chocolates, your guests will appreciate your thoughtfulness, and you will appreciate the money you save. == The Main Attraction Of Serving Food == One of the main attractions of food based wedding favors, aside from the culinary aspects, is that the ingredients for these cheap wedding favors can be purchased inexpensively from the grocery store and your local discount retailer. For instance, you could purchase some inexpensive baskets and some cellophane from your local discount store, bake as many brownies as you need to fill the baskets, and create some elegant looking but very inexpensive wedding favors for your gifts. Your guests will appreciate your thoughtfulness, enjoy the brownies, and have a lovely basket to use around the house. As you can see, you need not give up quality, or look cheap, in order to save money on wedding favors. It is quite possible to create wonderful wedding favors that will be appreciated for years to come, even on the tightest of budgets. Those Pesky Feelings

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Terry Coyier Once, eons ago it seems, my feelings were so extreme that they ripped through my body reducing me to a quivering mass of flesh, bones and blood, helpless to defend myself or even to care. I didn’t understand why my reactions were so fierce for nearly a quarter of a century, but I always knew I was different from everyone else. My classmates constantly taunted me knowing they would get some outlandish reply, tears or some sort of emotional display that would fuel their teasing and gossip even more. I’ll never forget in the 4th grade being labeled as “weird “by one girl, because it stuck with me through high school. I finally shed that brand sometime around the age of eighteen; two years after my first suicide attempt. By this time, I had absorbed some basic knowledge about “normal” human behavior so that I would cry only in private and would hold my tongue just enough to be considered merely obnoxious. Obnoxious is, of course, much more acceptable than weird. Although I no longer wore my “scarlet W,” my emotions continued to spin out of control within the confines of my mind. Anger is my most problematic and complex feeling. I have struggled with it since I was a small child of five or six. Growing up I was not permitted to have tantrums or to back talk my elders in any way, shape or form. In other words, if I disagreed with something, I didn’t have an outlet so it stayed pent up inside of me. The anger then turned into a bubbling, churning, invisible bomb that would eventually explode, splattering its nastiness on anyone in its path. Then, I would regroup and spend the next few days apologizing to everyone who had unwittingly been in the way. As an adult, I realized that part of my anger was merely a defense mechanism. Sometimes my anger manifests itself inappropriately as meanness and is often directed towards people I don’t even know. Considering how my peers treated me, I learned early on that if I were mean to them first then they would become afraid and pick on me less. Not a healthy coping skill by any standard, but it worked, or so I thought. Unfortunately, even today, I experience the repercussions from that reputation. Apparently its even recognizable to people I’ve just met. My boss continually reminds me not to act malevolently towards my co-workers. Of course, sometimes I disguise my cruelty as sarcasm; other times my sarcasm is just my unique perspective of the world and it’s infinitely hilarious scenarios. Regrettably, most people cannot distinguish between the two. Over the past ten years I have slowly learned to express my anger properly, although, I cannot count on it 100% of the time. Since I began talking bipolar medications, much of my indiscriminate and misdirected anger has subsided, so the illness is certainly takes a good portion of the blame. The rest of the problem is still, as they say, a work in progress. Although I can’t tell you about the first time my heart was broken, or the second, or the third, I can, however, vividly recall the raw pain every time I see a movie that accurately portrays those feelings that normally elude me. Amazingly, movies, theater and music can ignite the still waters that flow beneath my Lithium induced faade. I am quite astounded by the talent that actors and musicians have to whisk me into a fictional realm that seems so realistic that I react with the same intensity as if I was experiencing it first hand. Possibly my reaction to these dramas is a defense mechanism that protects my unequipped mind from my true emotions. Perhaps it is just another facet of my personality. Maybe it’s a byproduct of my own unique bipolar disorder. Who knows? I do know that without Lithium, my emotions plague my inner child with either the “self-destruct” mode or in the “I’m perfect” mode. No regularity, no in between and no emergency shut off switch. For every yin there is a yang and emotions are no exception. As profoundly as I revive my pain and sorrow, I’m equally as capable of breaking into hysterics in situations that are not humorous to anyone else. The first time I can clearly recall such a reaction was in the 7th grade. One of my four good friends had just revealed to us that her mother had been diagnosed with cancer. This is definitely not a funny situation, yet my immediate reaction was laughter. I was, of course, chastised for my lack of compassion and spit out a hasty apology, but inside I was still amused. I have never figured out why, although I still analyze that moment from time to time. Many conclusions could be drawn as to why I reacted with laughter. It could have been my young age and lack of knowledge about cancer. It could have been a defense mechanism that I had for dealing with unpleasant situations. It could have been another byproduct of the bipolar monster. Again, I would attribute medications to preventing similar responses in equally serious circumstances today. Like many people who suffer with bipolar disorder, I can also become paranoid and overreact if I am unstable. For instance, if people happen to coincidentally stop talking just as I happen by, I immediately conclude that they were saying something hateful about me. If a guy I’m dating is more than a few minutes late, then he is either cheating on me or has been in a fatal accident. If my mom forgets to call me, then she doesn’t love me anymore. If I get called into my boss’ office, then I have committed some unspeakable faux pas and am going to be fired, or at least demoted. If too many cars cut me off or seem to come close to colliding with me, then people are “out to get me.” If someone doesn’t smile and say good morning, then they hate me. Again, some of these examples are related to self-esteem and mine has improved tremendously with education and therapy. But, I have been actively seeking to improve my self-esteem for more than half my life and only in the last ten years, since going on medication, have I seen any noticeable results. People around me have also commented on my metamorphosis. Whatever the situation at hand, it is not unusual for me to overreact or act inappropriately. I know that some of the problem is just my own particular and peculiar personality. I have a dry sense of humor and find amusement everywhere I look. I am also very compassionate and tend to take on other’s problems as my own. I’m also a vessel overflowing with anger that, when unleashed, is quite similar to Mother Nature in all her fury. But, I cannot ignore the influence that family and friends and society have also had on shaping my persona. These reasons aside, I feel the majority of these problems can be attributed to my bipolar disorder simply because the use of psychiatric medications have alleviated most of the unpredictable and outlandish thoughts and conquered my emotional squalls. Not only can others see a difference, I can feel the difference and I can even track it with a mood chart! A mood chart, by the way, is a terrific tool that enables you to gain a new perspective on your emotions, assists your psychiatrist in prescribing and adjusting your medications and allows your therapist to identify areas that require further exploration. Whatever way you chose to view emotions, the only definite answer I have is they are so intricately woven from different pieces of life that it is impossible to draw a clear picture of origination. For the future of my emotions, I have crayon in hand and fully plan on coloring a happy and well-adjusted picture! Terry J. Bilberry Extract Shown to Improve Nightblindness

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Judy Phillips According to the latest British Journal of Nutrition (2005;93:8959), supplementing with an extract of bilberry fruit (Vaccinium myrtillus) may improve night vision in nearsighted people. Thats good news for those of you who may have to cope with bothersome night blindness! Bilberry, a close relative of the blueberry, is a small shrub that grows throughout central and northern Europe, northern Asia, and North America. Traditionally, due to its powerful tannin content, bilberry has been used to treat diarrhea, hemorrhoids, and urinary tract infections. Others preliminary studies have indicated bilberrys effectiveness in addressing microcirculatory conditions, such as macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and other retinal disorders. The active compounds of bilberry, Anthocyanosides, are potent antioxidants which have been noted to promote and strengthen capillaries and blood vessels. While the majority of bilberrys research has been conducted in vitro, there has been a close correlation between bilberry and its ability to regenerate a compound in the eye (rhodopsin) that is responsible for night vision. Specifically, rhodopsin, also known as visual purple, lies within the rod cells of your eye, and is extremely sensitive to low levels of light. In fact, when exposed to white light, rhodopsin is immediately bleached and takes approximately 30 minutes to regenerate in humans. Nearsightedness, or myopia, affects up to one quarter of Americans. Those afflicted with myopia often describe distant objects as being blurry, yet most with myopia are able to see nearby objects quite clearly. This condition occurs from the eye being longer than the focal point, and is shaped much like a football. Individuals with nearsightedness are also at greater risk for acute eye problems such as glaucoma or retinal detachment, and often experience floaters, dryness, tearing, and of course, poor night vision. The new study from the Department of Ophthalmology, Institute of Vision Research, Yonsei University in Seoul Korea was aimed at determining the effects of bilberry extract on night vision and other symptoms associated with nearsightedness. The study examined 60 individuals with mild to moderate myopia. Thirty of the participants received 100mg of bilberry extract (containing 85% anthocyanosides) two times per day, and the remaining thirty received a placebo pill. Contrast sensitivity, a measure of nocturnal vision, was tested before and after treatment. The participants also answered questions regarding the frequency and severity of their eye symptoms including eye strain, dryness, tearing, blurry vision, and decreased vision in dark places. Twenty-two (73%) of the 30 participants receiving the bilberry supplement showed significantly greater improvement in eye symptoms and contrast sensitivity, suggesting an improvement in night vision. In contrast, only 1 of the 30 participants in the placebo group showed any signs of improvement. Additionally, no side effects were associated with use of the bilberry supplement. This study provides good evidence that bilberry may help to improve night vision in those afflicted with myopia. Previous studies on healthy individuals indicated that bilberry has no effect on night vision, however, these studies utilized bilberry preparations with much lower concentrations of anthocyanosides (5 to 30%), and they were administered for shorter periods of time. Beauty Tip: How to Cover Dark Circles and Blemishes

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Sheila Dicks Unless your skin is absolutely flawless, concealer is a must. So before you use foundation have blemishes and dark circles concealed. The first step in concealing, whether it is dark circles or blemishes is choosing the right concealer. A good concealer does not go on dry and make your skin look cracked but is smooth, creamy and blends easily. Concealers that work best have a yellowish tone. Dark Circles: 1. Before applying concealer gently pat a light eye cream under the eye to moisturize the skin. Use your ring finger to pat on moisturizer and concealer since the skin in this area is extra delicate and the ring finger, which has the least amount of strength, is less likely to pull or tear. 2. To apply concealer use a concealer brush (similar to a lip brush with soft bristles) to get in those hard to reach areas such as the inner corners of eyes and to get concealer exactly were you want it. 3. Apply the concealer under your eyes up as far as the lash line to the inner corners. Do not apply concealer to you eyelids because your eye shadow will crease. Then, pat to blend with your ring finger. 4. Apply foundation over the concealer, also in a patting motion around the eyes, being careful not to rub any concealer off. 5. In order for your foundation to have a nice clear look you must use an exfoliant regularly. After you have applied foundation use powder to keep the foundation in place. For more about foundation application go to http://www.ezinearticles.com/?Beauty-Tip:-Foundation-Secrets-For-A-Flawless-Complexion&id=4556 Blemishes: 1. Moisturize as usual and then blot a little concealer on the blemish using a concealer brush. 2. Apply foundation 3. If the blemish is still visible use the brush to paint a little foundation over the blemish. 4. Use just one dab of powder on the blemish to set the foundation. 5. Youre ready to go. Reignite Romance!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Gina Kovacs Ah, the hustle and bustle of life. Going to and fro in search of knowledge and thingsroutines that never miss a beat, the constant exhaustion at the end of a long day. The waking up to a Monday morning wishing for an extra hour of sleep. Sound familiar? You go to bed on one side of the bed and your spouse the other. A quick goodnight (unless there is a good show on T.V.), a peck on the check, and off to Neverland. Every night only to greet the routine of the next day. Sadly enough, most couples land in this all-too familiar category unintentionally. Yes, unintentionally. In the hustle and bustle of busy days, we forget the longing looks to our mate, the knowing smile, the warmth of a touch that lets each other know that their union is one of desire and will. We are caught in the most chaotic time that I know of; trapped in a go and must-do attitude, forgetting to live life to the fullest. Forgetting passion, desire, need, craving and yes, expression of love. As people who feel every feeling imaginable, we need to express and feel love to be alive. And whom more to express that ultimate feeling with than your spouse whom you committed yourself to before God? I remember watching a movie once that starred Michael J. Fox where he and his co-star were sitting in a restaurant and the waitress said express, dont repress. Expressing feelings of love with your spouse brings to life the very heart and soul of living. And while I could easily expound on living life to the fullest and loving in the most general of terms, I want to address the love to your spouse. Sometimes, as life moves with your spouse from month to month and year-to-year, the daily life cycle and roles that are played cloud over all the very reasons why your heart was lost within the person you are next to every night. Age does not matter. I know, for just a moment, you may pause to think that you are perhaps just a little too old to show a romantic gesture to your spouse? But does romance stop at a particular age? In short, no. Romance is the art of expression. And while we could go further to discuss a physical connection, romance is the forefront of an ignition of feelings that carries across time itself; that leads the heart to feel and be in the most exquisite of ways. To express romance is to feel the warmth of your heart for the other; it is memories of the silly times, the hard times, the passionate times. Romance is in the touch of the others skin, the caress of the face, the soft kiss on the lips for those memories you shared. Romance is in the rose you buy for no other reason than to see a smile on her face and the surprise of your expression of love. It is in the coffee you bring to him while he sits in his all-too familiar chair because of a wanting to please him. Romance is an expression of life, love, and memories. A need and feeling that can not be described to another because it is unique to you. It is shopping for groceries together and laughing over the selection of ice cream. It is the embrace at night as your arms slide over your spouse like the most precious treasure you own. It is in the candle-lit dinner that you share after the children have gone off to bed. Or the warmth of a glance across the family dinner table as you celebrate being with your children whom you created together. In the hustle and bustle of our days, we forget the celebration of life and love and the deepest appreciation for what you share with the person whom you stood with on the alter before God, your families and community. Romance is celebration; passion and recollection of the past and dreams of the future that has yet to exist. It is in the possibilities that you can share with your spouse and the comfort of knowing this person will be there come rain or shine, through highs and lowsyour most precious of gifts that God could ever bestow on you. True, there are times when romance is tested. Tension abounds from time-to-time most commonly over finances or children. But such times are moments and moments come and go and still the one you love is there before you. It is so easy to sum up the wholeness of your relationship with another because of tense times, times that can build and build like a mountain of troubles that are held for recollection. Nothing comes from such feelings and rather holds your life back from experiencing the wonders that life has to offer. When storms shake your marriage, it is the sweet memories that have been exchanged that must be recalled, letting go of this heavy mountain, so you may embrace the one you love truly, completely, and passionately. Romance is easy because to give is the easiest thing that a person can do. Give of our time because we desire to do so for the one we love. In giving to our spouse, we receive so much in return. We know that we have brought pleasure to the one who has given so much back in return. We give of ourselves knowingly and completely. With saying good morning, goodnight, how much love you feel for them, how much you care for them, it is in the expression of your heart that romance is lit. Express, dont repress. Show your children that romance burns for the one you love. Shower your family with the joy of the love you feel for your spouse. Enjoy a slow dance in front of the fireplace or a glass of wine outside on the porch at night, looking at the stars and holding hands with fine appreciation at the beauty around you. And let me also say, on that note, that expressing as a form of communicating does wonders not only for your spouse, but for you as well. You dont need to hear I love you from your spouse before you respond you love them. Celebrate your love with words. From romantic to exotic, words are a wonderful expression of who you are. Words are very powerful. I love you or the famous You complete me means so much when you say it with feeling because you want to and not because you have to. My husband remarked to me recently how wonderful it was when I used the word honey. In my expression of love for him, I use it often. It is endearing for me to say it and lets the world know and indeed, my husband know, that he is special and precious and that he is the only person whom I use the term with. We cuddle at night and laugh over silly shows; I buy him Hostess snacks and hide them in his dressing room drawers so he can grab a snack at night. I can smile as I think of all the things I do and say. Back massages at night as he stands often during the day and his muscles become sore. The shirt I buy for no reason than I feel it will please him. Isnt it remarkable that just such a small token of affection can bring so much joy? How powerful are words that say I care can be? No my friends, romance is not about age or length of time you have been together. It is about past memories, your commitment, your love for your spouse and your expression of that love that is the very heart of romance. Live each day with romance! Live with passion! In dedication to my husband, Frank Kovacs who is my inspiration of life, love, and destiny. Ten Easy Steps to Great Kid Party Food

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Patricia Jensen This simple guide to kid party food turns your kids party into a fun food fest. Learn what turns kids on when it comes to party fare, and how to make it quick, easy, and impressive. Ten Easy Steps to Great Kids Party Food will show you how to think like a kid when it comes to celebratory snacking! 1. Make in Advance - Do as much food preparation prior to your party as possible. A variety of kid party food can be made ahead and stored for the big day, such as popcorn balls, jello jigglers, and snack mixes in ziploc bags. 2. Keep it Simple and Fresh - Kids really do know whats good for them, and will often gravitate to simple healthy foods first. Provide lots of natural choices such as vegetables with cream cheese based dips and salsas, fresh fruit fondue or chocolate dipped strawberries. Bugs on a log (cream-cheese filled celery, topped with raisins), and fish in the stream (cream-cheese filled celery, topped with goldfish crackers) are great healthy options too. 3. Try Quick Favorites - Tried-and-true kid party foods have stood the test of time and many a childs fickle taste buds. Stick with the originals you can whip up quick, such as pigs in a blanket, nachos, and microwave smores. 4. Color and Create - The more colorful it is, the better it will taste! At least kids seem to think so! Let kids color and decorate their own cookies or cupcakes using assorted frostings and food colorings, sprinkles, mini M & Ms, chocolate morsels, gummies, etc. 5. Smooth & Creamy - Arm yourself with a crushed ice maker or blender and youre ready to try any of these refreshing combinations: smoothies, snow cones, ice cream sodas or milk shakes. Another smooth and creamy alternative is to have kids make their own ice cream sundaes or layer fruit and yogurt for easy parfaits. 6. Crisp & Crunchy - Dont be a slave to unhealthy snacks. Crisp and crunchy goes way beyond potato chips! Experiment with whole wheat crackers, sweet cereals, peanuts (always check for allergies), pretzels, and crunchy snack mixes combining raisins, coconut and other dried fruits for sweetness. 7. Vary Ingredients - Just imagine the many unique sandwiches that can be made just by using different kinds of bread such as English muffins, tacos, pitas, small deli rolls, or tortilla wraps. They same goes for the sweets. Try fruit pops, pudding, cupcakes or mini donuts instead of the traditional cake and ice cream dessert. 8. Proper Presentation - Serve drinks in fancy plastic cocktail glasses, or colorful cups for toddlers. Serve dip in a hollowed-out pumpkin, squash or round bread. Serve chips, pretzels and munchies in themed containers such as disposable foil pie plates for a cowboy party, Chinese noodle boxes for a karate party. 9. Surprise Them! - Kids love surprises and food is no exception. Imagine their delight when they bite into a hamburger with taco filling, or a slice of cake with jello filling. Try hiding a jellybean surprise inside a cupcake, or add a small container of dry ice (with holes punched in it) to your party punch to make a bubbling brew! 10. Stash an Extra Supply - Its always wise to keep some extra snacks on hand for surprise guests. Siblings may show up uninvited and tax your food reserves, so be prepared! Article Marketing - 5 Quirky Tips to Get Your Articles Published

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Jan Verhoeff When you provide content that rocks the market, youre quite likely to get tagged and published. But seriously, how many ways can you say the same thing and be serious about a topic? Whenever I write a serious article, it gets picked up, because the content is, well serious. But, when I write an article that gives serious information with a twist of humor, it seems my articles are more likely to be chosen and republished. The best part is, it gets published in its entirety, with all the links in tact, because people like to read fun information on their sites, in their newsletters and ezines, or even in their collections of information. Boring is just exactly that, boring. If you havent figured it out, the objective of article marketing is to get our links out there so people will click on them, making our offsite SEO more effective. 1. Humor works. While slapstick comedy most likely isnt a working part of article marketing, a random comment, one liner, or risqu barb works miracles. So long as they dont sound out of place, or stupid. Article Marketing probably wont take you to Number One in Vegas, but you might get just past dishwasher in Hollywood with a few good one liners. 2. Humble humility? You could express yourself with humble humility, but when you get down there to the signature and you zap the reader with a load of self inflicted praise and admiration, they might not be willing to buy into your perspective. If you choose to go with humility, at least be consistent. 3. Brown nosing. If youre thinking of kissing up to the big boys, spell their names right. Name dropping has some interesting effects in marketing, and sometimes its worth a bit of risk to get some attention. But consistently dropping names to get attention isnt a good way to get your name out there. To be honest, it sucks. (You wanna get a tissue and wipe off the chocolate?) 4. Bold intensity. Occasionally, you lag behind because you lack confidence to get out there and promote your stuff. Article marketing is about self promotion. If you lack confidence, youll go nowhere fast. Sometimes you have to write the same kind of article forty times to get noticed, and that means sticking your neck out there, missing the hatchet and sticking it out again. If You Don’T Do These Things - You Will Never Flatten Your Tummy

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Bryan Miller So you want to flatten your stomach? Lose an inch or two around the waist? What about half a foot? You can do it, but I guarantee you’re not going to be able to do it without knowing what’s going on in your body. If you want to have a flattened stomach, you have to follow the rules. There are three basic rules to having a flat, toned, and sexy stomach. This goes for men. This goes for women. It doesn’t matter if you have had a baby, had a wife who had a baby, or have bad genetics, anyone can have a flat, lean looking stomach if they practice 3 basic rules. In these 3 rules, there are sub-rules. But, they aren’t really rules at all, they’re more like daily activities that can either make your abs stick out farther, or make your abs stick in, creating what most like to call “a smaller waist”. And these 3 guidelines are what I am going to share with you. First, however, I want to talk about the anatomy of the abdominal muscles. Don’t worry, I’ll make it quick, painless, and easy to understand. Besides, knowledge is power. If you know about your muscles, how they work, you can find your own methods (ones that work the best for you, not just the ones that are more comfortable) to losing belly fat, and trimming your waist-line. Basically, the main two parts of the abdominal wall are these: the rectus abdominus, and the obliques (internal and external). Even though they aren’t the only muscles in the abdominal wall, they are the most popular, so I’ll go ahead and explain them as a whole, then define them each specifically, and why they are so important to those who wish to slim their waistline. The abs are pretty much the spine of the front of the body. Every bone in your body is framework for your muscles, skin, and organs to function and stay suspended without drooping to the floor. Having a twitching blob of muscle and skin on the floor would just look weird. But the only area in the body that doesn’t have this structure is the belly, or stomach. It’s a cavity without any structure. This is where the abs come in. The abs are basically the center of the body. They are in control of balance, motion, breathing, and twisting the body. Your abdominal muscles are almost vital to your body, because they also protect your internal organs. The Rectus Abdominus: The Rectus Abdominus is the big sheet of “bubble paper” that goes straight down the middle. It’s characterized by the “six pack”. This part of your abdominal wall, when it contracts, pulls the rib cage downward, bending your spinal chord from behind. The lower area of the rectus abdominus also has the ability to curl the hips upward, and extend the legs toward the front of the body. Although this is not the primary motion, the abdominal wall does control some leg movement. The Internal and External Obliques: Although there are two different types of oblique abdominal muscles, they act synergistically, and almost identically. But the oblique muscles are what keeps your abdominal wall flat, and your waist thin. If you want a tight waist, you have got to have strong obliques. You can have a strong rectus abdominus “sheet” and have weak oblique muscles, and your stomach will stick out as if you had no ab strength at all, and were carrying a pillow under your shirt. The oblique muscles are in control of twisting the body, and forcing the rectus abs closer to the spinal chord. When the obliques are toned, strong, and shaped well, they actually do more of the work (in flattening the stomach) than the rectus abdominus. If you’re wanting a flat stomach, you have got to strengthen the abdominal wall. If you do not have a strong enough midsection, your waist will not be smaller than you have it now. So now, I want to go into the simple 3 rule system of shrinking your waistline. This won’t be comfortable, but it won’t be difficult. All you have to do is incorporate these 3 rules into your daily life, and you’ll feel great. The three rules of a slimmer belly are low body fat, strength of the abs, and posture. I want to let you in on a secret that you’ve probably heard countless times in your life. I’ll tell you in form of a cliche: Rome was not build in a day. These 3 rules will take time to develop your midsection. You have the ability to speed up the process (and I’ll tell you how), but you cannot give up. These are not going to be extremely grueling ab workouts either, so don’t worry about that. Rule Number 1: Low body fat. You have toned abs. They are just covered with fat. You have to have lower body fat to have great abdominal muscles. To do this, I recommend you eat right, walk at least 30 minutes a day (more secret to this in Rule Number 3), drink plenty of water, and eat your daily servings of fruits and vegetables. That would be 5 to 9 servings. If you have more questions on this (since I’m not going into a lengthy discussion on weight loss) go to my blog at the bottom of this article, and you’ll find great information on how to lose weight effectively and healthily. Rule Number 2: Strength. This is when the true discomfort for some of you may come in. You have got to strengthen your abdominal muscles! We live in a society now where the majority of activity is done sitting down. Unless you’re a fitness nut, and you already know this, you’re probably sitting at the computer right now with your shoulders slouched, and your stomach may be sticking out a bit. This is not how your abs were suppose to be. They weaken with each passing moment because they are not engaged! To strengthen you abs, I suggest two things. The first is called “the plank”. This is one of the best abdominal wall strengthening exercises ever, and it only takes a minute a day to really do wonders for your waist. 1 - Lay face down on the floor.2 - Get on your hands and knees.3 - Extend your legs until you are in a “push up” position.4 - Keep your entire body rigid, straight, and at an angle, arms still extended.5 - Hold for as long as you can. (Preferably, a minute). This is intense, but it will strengthen your entire midsection without doing bothersome crunches and ab workouts. The second suggestion is Rule Number 3: Posture. Since we’re driving, sitting, and slouching more in today’s daily life, our posture is incredibly bad. Our backs are going out more often, our stomachs pooch, and we wonder why we don’t look as good as we once did. Posture is important because it forces your body to rest perfectly center on gravity. Your back is straight, your spine is aligned, your shoulders are back, and most importantly for those who wish to lose their gut, the abs are in. This position actually takes less energy in the long run, because gravity is pushing down against a structure designed for it, and it’s entirely in line. When you walk for 30 minutes a day, maintain perfect posture. Keep your shoulders back, your chin up, and your abs in. You’ll feel like you can breath easier, take fuller breath, as well as look and feel more confident. This is the benefit of good posture. In conclusion, the main focus on how to get a firm, slimmer belly is to engage your abdominal wall in the way it was made to be engaged. Low body fat, strength, and posture are all keys to a great stomach, and anyone can achieve this, no matter where you are now, you can do it. Use Green Tea as Part of Your Weight Loss Efforts

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Jon Stout Many of us are on a quest to lose weight. According to polls, approximately 40% of all women are on a diet at any given time. Yet, overweight and obesity continue to be one of our nations leading health problems. Consider these statistics: 58 Million Americans are Overweight; 40 Million are Obese; 3 Million are morbidly Obese Eight out of 10 people over the age of 25 are overweight 78% of Americans dont meet basic activity level recommendations 25% are completely sedentary Being overweight is more than just a vanity issue, too. There are serious health risks related to being overweight. And, the higher your weight climbs, the more health complications youre at risk for. Some of the most serious weight related health risks include: Type II Diabetes Heart Disease High Blood Pressure Cancer To maintain your health, its critical to get your weight under control. We all know that diet and exercise are the key components of weight loss and maintenance, but many of us have become discouraged because we have tried and failed many times. So, rather than following the same diet steps that failed you before, why not try a new approach this time? There are many things we know today about dieting that we didnt know years ago. Here are some ways you can make weight loss and maintenance come more automatically, so that you can keep the weight off for good. Exercise Right We all know that exercise is important to weight loss. However, many of us think of exercise in terms of simply burning calories. And, while aerobic exercise is important for burning fat and calories and for helping maintain a healthy heart; we now know that weight training is just as important. In addition to spending 30 minutes doing aerobic exercise most days of the week, you should also add weight training to your exercise plan. It doesnt take hours; 3 20 minute sessions a week is enough for most people. Weight training helps build muscle. This is important because muscle burns more calories, even at rest, than fat. So, if you can increase the amount of lean muscle in your body, youll speed up your metabolism, burning more calories every day- even when youre not exercising. This is a critical part of weight loss and weight maintenance. Many of us work hard to reduce the amount of calories we ingest when we really should be working harder to increase the number of calories we burn. Significant calorie restriction doesnt work well over the long term, so we shouldnt make it the core of our weight management program. Watch What You Eat For years weve been programmed to watch how much we eat. However, its more important to concentrate on eating the right foods than it is to simply cut calories. Here are some substitutes you can make that will help you lose weight without feeling hungry Cut out white flour and replace with whole grains White flour is processed by the body just like sugar, so for many of us it packs on the pounds. Eating 100% whole grain breads and pasta instead of those made with white flour will help you lose weight. In addition, youll be adding fiber to your diet, which is good for your overall health. Cut out processed foods You can speed weight loss by eating unprocessed foods. In particular, foods containing anything hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated are enemies of weight loss and heart disease. Another villain to watch out for is high fructose corn syrup. This is a sort of artificial super sugar that really puts on pounds. These ingredients are used by food manufacturers to increase shelf life, but they are very bad for our bodies. By buying natural unprocessed foods like fresh fruits and vegetables and fresh meats, you can eat in a way thats more healthy overall as well as helpful to weight loss. Watch the Sugar Sugar also makes it easy to gain weight. Many people have no idea how many calories they consume through sweetened beverages like sodas. Even juice has a lot of calories from sugar. And, while juice is healthy and contains vitamins, youd be far better off getting those vitamins from a piece of fresh fruit instead of a glass of juice. You get more fiber and less sugar. Add foods that help burn calories Its just as important to eat foods that speed calorie burning as it is to cut out foods that put on weight. Here are some things to add to your diet to help speed weight loss. Green tea Replace those sodas (even if theyre diet) with green tea. Green tea is full of anti-oxidants, which can help you stay healthy overall. Green tea has been shown to prevent serious illnesses like heart disease and cancer when its part of your regular diet. In addition, green teas combination of anti-oxidants and caffeine speed up the metabolism in a way that other caffeinated beverages cannot. Research has shown that people who drink green tea burn more calories in a day than those who do not consume it. Green tea is available in many forms, including bottled varieties for convenience. Raw vegetables - Most raw vegetables require more calories to digest than they actually contain. So, munching on celery, carrots and broccoli will actually burn calories. Cinnamon and hot peppers Both of these spices are known to speed up the metabolism. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon to your coffee or tea, and add hot pepper to meals. Making simple changes in your lifestyle and diet that you can maintain for the long run are important steps to weight management. This time around, spend less time worrying about how much you eat and more time consuming the foods that can help you lose weight automatically. Jon M.
