Buddhism

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Tony Ha Buddha Dharma, known by many as Buddhism, is also referred to as “the teachings of the awakened one.” It revolves around the teachings of Gautama Buddha or Pali Gotama Buddha, an India native from approximate fifth century, before (the) Common (or Christian) Era, and is also referred to as a religion, psychological discipline and a passage of life. History has it that Buddha was born a prince in Nepal, formerly Lumbini, to a wealthy family. Indulging in a life of luxury, he grew discontent at 29 years of age, and found that lifes pleasures were temporary and would never bring about lasting joy because of sickness, aging and death that must meet everyone regardless of circumstance. So Buddha left his family palace life, even his wife and child. He became a wanderer seeking peace for nearly five years until he was enlightened while meditating under a tree at Bodh Gaya. His enlightenment brought about ideas which he eventually decided to teach to others, including about: -the nature of existence. -a path leading to release from inherent suffering. -our re-birth many times, depending upon our deeds and actions, both resulting in good and bad. -the idea of a permanent self or soul being illusion. Buddha did not say he was God, and founded the religion without God; some say Buddha Dharma is, A religion without a God. After about forty-five years, having supposedly finding an end to suffering, Buddha died (88 years old). His departing instructions to followers were, Strive on with diligence. After the death of Gautama Buddha, Buddha Dharma spread across the country and continued across the entire continent covering the major areas; Southeast, Central and East Asia. It is now a modern day religion among 350 + million people, possibly even over 700 million, by some statistics, and ranks fifth among religions worldwide, following Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and traditional Chinese, in that order. Among organized religions worldwide, Buddha Dharma ranks fourth; their Sangha (monk order) ranks the oldest. Buddha Dharma continues to grow and in the modern day world consists of three traditions: Mahāyāna, Sanskrit: Sthaviravāda or Theravāda and Vajrayāna Buddhism. No Income Verification Home Equity Loan

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Levetta_Rivera]Levetta Rivera A no income verification home equity loan is a second mortgage loan that does not require you to provide income documentation to qualify for the loan. This type of loan is great for homeowners who need a home equity loan but have hard to document income. The majority of borrowers with hard to document income are either self-employed or commission based employees. Consumers who fall under these categories may have high income but have a lot of business related deductions that they write off on their taxes. This is good on the one hand as it reduces the taxable income and thus the amount of taxes owed, however, when it comes to getting a home loan it can hurt as most lenders use the average of your last 2 years taxable net income (the amount left after all of your deductions) to determine your income figure for qualifying purposes. This may cause you to have a debt to income ratio problem if you have a high debt load and thus keep you from qualifying for the loan. With a no income verification home equity loan, however, your gross income can be used for qualifying purposes as opposed to the net income. In order to qualify for a no income verification home equity loan you will, in most cases, need good credit and a high credit score. Expect to pay a higher rate for this type of loan as opposed to a traditional loan in which you have to document your income. Also, even though a no income verification loan does not require you to document your income, some lenders may require that you have a certain dollar value of assets on hand which must be verified. Not all lenders have this requirement though - some lenders offer a program called NINA which stands for “no income no assets” meaning you do not have to document either. Loan guidelines and rates vary from lender to lender so it is a good idea to shop around to increase your chances of getting the best deal available to you. Buy Cell Phones Without Plans

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Max_Bellamy]Max Bellamy Cell phone companies typically launch different schemes from time to time with a view to attracting new customers. Many cellular companies offer cell phone packages that include a cell phone and a specific amount of talk time preloaded in it. However, users have to subscribe to a plan after using up the initial talk time provided with the phone. Schemes that do not have any plans are expected to be launched in the coming years when disposable cell phones manufactured on a commercial scale are introduced in the market. The technology used in these devices is still in developmental stages and needs refinement. Working models have already been manufactured and patented but commercial production can start only after the market demand for such devices is assessed. Disposable phones will be made available through vending machines located at train stations, bus depots, and other public places. It is expected to replace pay phone booths over a period of time and provide easy accessibility at affordable costs. Users will have to insert a bill into a vending machine to get the phone equipped with a specific amount of talk time. The device will become useless after the talk time is utilized and users will have to buy a new phone to remain connected. Cell phones without plans will be targeted at users such as kids, parents, and teachers who need to remain connected during weekend trips or summer vacations. They will also be targeted at occasional users who need to remain connected during special occasions such as prom nights or parties. They will be available at different rates based on the talk time provided with the disposable phone. Plan-free cell phones will enable users to save on costs related to cell phone bills and at the same time, stay connected. Users can assess their connectivity requirements and buy a phone that offers the requisite talk time. If plan-free cell phone plans are offered at affordable rates, it is very likely to bring in a large-scale change in the cell phone market. 3 Secrets Your Diet Book Won’t Tell You

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Amy S. Grant Are you wondering why youre not losing weight? If youre like me, youve tried every fad diet imaginable, and nothing seems to work at least not long-term. Ive personally tried Weight Watchers (that worked great until my schedule changed and I was no longer able to attend meetings), Atkins (not easy to follow for someone who travels a lot and loves to dine out), and crazy fad diets like the cabbage soup diet, the grapefruit diet, juice fasts, and countless others. I was hungry all the time, and I wasnt able to sustain any substantial weight loss because there are three secrets that NONE of those diets told me. First, diets dont work, PERIOD. Any plan thats highly restrictive, structured or specialized is unrealistic for long-term maintenance. Plus, any diet that requires you to totally eliminate foods from your diet is a recipe for disaster. Personally, I dont care for chocolate. However, when someone tells me I cant or shouldnt have chocolate, its amazing how I suddenly crave it! When someone takes away a choice, the average person wants that choice back even if it didnt mean much when the option was available in the first place. Additionally, most diets dont work for everyone, and you wont know if a diet works unless you try it. Trying many diets without seeing results can lead to “dieters frustration” which, in many cases, just packs on more pounds. The second point that most diets fail to mention is that you must eat frequently to regulate your metabolism and burn fat. Extreme low-calorie and tiny “portion-control” diets put your body into starvation mode, which means your body clings to food because it doesnt know when its next meal is coming. This explains how you can actually eat less food and consume less calories, and still not lose any weight. If your diet makes you feel hungry all the time, thats definitely not a good sign. The best nutrition plans require that you eat five or six small meals per day, no more than four hours apart. Finally, diets are lying to you when they say you must be “patient” and expect to lose only one to two pounds per week. For someone like me, who had fifty pounds to lose, this information was devastating. If you have a lot of weight to lose (50 pounds or more), it is not unhealthy to drop three to five pounds per week, particularly in the beginning. In my experience, the greatest motivator is early results. When you can see the fruit of your efforts, you are much more likely to press onward when the going gets tough. Early results can help you maintain focus and keep your determination alive. An excellent all-natural supplement such as NiteTrim (www.NiteTrimDirect.com) can jump-start your results from other weight-loss efforts. Supplements such as NiteTrim can also help you break through the dreaded “plateaus.” Once I discovered these three secrets, I realized that the best way to get in shape and maintain a healthy body is through proper nutrition, regular exercise and appropriate supplementation. By far the best program Ive found is a combination of Bill Phillips Body for LIFE (www.BodyForLife.com) and NiteTrim (www.NiteTrimDirect.com). Bill Phillips has truly made nutrition simple, effective, and easy to follow. Additionally, the Body for LIFE book provides step-by-step exercise and fitness guidance suitable for anyone, regardless of experience or current fitness level. NiteTrim is an all-natural supplement that effectively burns fat, and the company offers a 30-day free trial supply, as well as a money-back guarantee at www.NiteTrimDirect.com Amy Grant is an avid fitness enthusiast who enjoys SCUBA diving, photography, and empowering people to achieve their goals. Weight Loss Strategies - Getting Unstuck

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Carol Solomon When it comes to weight loss, many people feel stuck. One definition of being stuck is this: “Being stuck is when you can only see one possibility, and you don’t like what you see.” One thing coaches help clients do is generate more possibilities . . . and more options. When you have more possibilities, then you have a CHOICE. And when you have a choice, then you have FREEDOM. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* PAYING THE PRICE *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* So consider that there is always a price to pay for getting unstuck. The price might be changing your eating habits. That might mean eating less, or eating your favorite foods less often. The price might be starting an exercise plan and sticking to it. It might be paying the cost of hiring a personal trainer, a personal coach, or a gym membership. Or it might be investing time in learning ways to soothe yourself without using food. It might mean changing the belief system that is supporting your current behavior (”Everyone in my family gets heavier as they get older. I’m going to too.”) Or changing your values to make health and weight loss a higher priority in your life. Change typically doesn’t happen until it becomes your highest priority. You may worry that the price is too high . . . that you would need to give up too much. But, there is a price to pay for staying stuck as well. And you probably have been paying this price for far too long. That price might be low self-image, low self-confidence, and poor body image. It might be constant emotional turmoil, or listening to relentless negative, critical self-talk day in and day out. It may be putting your life on hold and NOT going after what you want until you lose weight. It might be the physical discomfort of wearing clothes that don’t fit, combined with the mental anguish every time you look in the mirror. Or it might be some other cost, but in EVERY case, there is a price. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* SELF-COACHING *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* To coach yourself in getting unstuck, follow these steps: 1. Recognize that there is a price to pay whether you change your behavior or keep things the same. 2. Recognize that there IS a way to make the change (once the price is paid, then you have made the change). In most cases, there are MANY ways to make the change. 3. Identify the price for keeping things the same AND the price for making the change. Ask yourself what it is costing you to keep things the same, and what it would cost you to make the change. What would you need to give up? 4. Decide if you want to make the change. If the price seems too big, think about it some more. Use your optimism and flexibility of thinking to come up with ways to make the change that are easier and more doable. Think about how you might ease into it without struggle. If you LOOK for these, and EXPECT to find them, your mind has a way of creating them. 5. In most cases, the price to be paid involves changing your beliefs. For instance, if you believe “this is going to be hard,” it will be. 6. Keep in mind both sides of the equation. It may SEEM easier to keep things the same, but when you think of what it is actually costing you, and HOW LONG you have been paying that price, things may look different. And the sooner you start, the lower the cost will be. Learn the #1 reason you sabotage yourself, and what you can do to stop it. Dating: Do You Know When to Stop Dating Someone?

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Dr. Jackie Black If you date men or women long past the point when you are still exploring whether or not s/he is your ideal match, take heart! You are in the vast majority of people around the world. This phenomenon is not regional, generational, or related to education, or socioeconomic circumstances. Being willing or able to recognize that someone is a good match or not a good match for you, and stop dating him or her, seems to be a universal dilemma. Lets review a few Dating Basics: Dating is a process and you are dating to find your ideal match. Recognizing that the men or women you are dating are not a match for you is the point of the dating process. It is highly likely that you will date a number of people who will not be your ideal match and that many of the people you are dating will recognize that you are not their ideal match. Ending the dating process is the only next logical step to take if we agree that the point of dating is to find our ideal mate. Let me tell you a story that makes this much more complex than a philosophical question: I have a young colleague who has been dating a woman for a number of weeks. They enjoy each others company very much. They share common interests and have a good time together. He called me recently to tell me he was very sad. He had come to recognize that there was no future w/ this special lady. They are both professionals, mature and very clear about who they are and what they need and want in a partner. My young friend is crystal clear that he wants children. His special lady loves being an aunt to 5 nieces and nephews and has absolutely no interest in having children of her own. It is important to him that his life partner be as passionate and enthusiastic as he is about family and co-parenting (he holds a very high value for family/children). This is an unsolvable problem. My young friend is correct. He must end the dating relationship. However, he and his lady friend might be able to change the nature of their relationship. First he must tell her very directly that they are not a match and why and that he isnt going to date her anymore. Then he has some choices. He can say goodbye and never see her again; Or He can tell her that he enjoys her company and would like to continue doing some of the fun things they do together. He must tell her directly that he will be actively dating other women. If they are sexual he will have to let her know that their new friendship-relationship will be platonic. The ball is now in her court. She really likes him and from everything he says, she probably thinks he is a pretty close match. Is she going to continue having fun being with him in this new relationship structure? Is she willing and able to continue seeing him knowing that he is not going to date her anymore, and he is going to actively date other women? What will she do with her feelings of attraction? Feelings of affection? Will she use this as an opportunity to continue seeing him and try to change his mind (trample all over his values and boundaries)? Will she try to include children in her life/relationship plan (collapse into herself and abandon her values and boundaries)? I hope you can begin to see that changing the nature of a relationship, staying friends with someone with whom youve been emotionally involved, can be tricky. It can be done if both people have a commitment to honor their values and requirements, the courage to tell themselves and the other person the truth, and the willingness to stay engaged in the process! Clarify your values, needs, beliefs and the vision you hold for you life. Appreciate everyone who comes into your life and weave the threads of the connection you had with them into the rich fabric of your life. Learn to say goodbye so you can use your physical and emotional energy to attract the man or the woman who will make your heart sing every day for the rest of your life. Remember, only YOU can make it happen! Copyright Dr. Jackie Black 1999-2005 If you like this article, please read more about Dr. Jackies relationship dating advice and help for issues and problems. Weight Loss Tips Part 2, Learn Everything You Need

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Jean Lam In the first part of this article we discussed about calories consumption and the problem there was regarding calories reduction and weight loss. During this second part of the article well discuss about starvation diets and proper weight loss tips for people who suffer from the problem of being incapable of experiencing positive results during their weight loss programs. Ok then, so coming back to the topic of starvation diets; a starvation diet happens when you reduce the intake of calories you consume, and what happens is that your body tries to make up for this reduction and therefore clings to your body fat, which means that, even if you exercise, you will be burning less calories than usual. Another problem with these weight loss tips that include the serious restriction of calories, is that it becomes increasingly difficult to follow such program, and the reason why that happens is because your body is used to the amount of calories you consume, and if you stop doing that, then you will feel tired, depressed, and guilty every time you eat something. The worst part about those weight loss tips that include starvation diets relies on the fact that, when you can not take the program anymore, your body will quickly accumulate all the fat it can, so as to replace what was lost; and in the end, you might end up with more fat than the amount you had before the diet. Now that we have discussed the reasons and possible consequences of following weight loss tips that relate to starvation diets, it is time for us to discuss about the realistic and efficient weight loss tips. First of all you need to understand that diet is the most important part of any weight loss program, and while you should not starve by reducing the amount of calories you ingest, it is important to reduce them gradually. Also, try eating healthier types of food that provide the required nutrients to your body. Never, by any circumstances, try to overlook your hunger, instead try replacing the types of food you eat; you will soon notice that, by not being hungry, every diet is much easier to follow. Exercise, that is the best weight loss tip, always remember to quicken your metabolism by exercising. Cardio types of exercise are better for losing weight, and you will also enjoy from a much healthier life. Cafeteria At Fault for College Weight Gain

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Diana Keuilian College weight gain is at an all time high, and as students continue to pack on the pounds at an increasing rate, we naturally want to know where the blame lies for this growing epidemic. Since food consumption contributes significantly to weight gain, is it safe to assume that cafeterias are responsible for the expanding waistlines of our students? Read on for three reasons why the cafeteria food you eat is making you fat, and tips to help you stop the weight gain. 1. All You Can Eat When was the last time you were given a tray and let loose in an all-you-can-eat buffet? Although most people only experience this phenomenon while either onboard a cruise ship or visiting Las Vegas, college students often have the buffet going experience three times a day, seven days a week. That comes out to twenty-one opportunities to overeat each week. Students are handed the serving spoon, and the sky is the limit! Lets do some simple math together to help explain the damage done by the all-you-can-eat cafeteria. One must consume roughly 3,500 extra calories in order to gain a pound. This may seem like a large number, but when broken down between twenty-one meals, one pound can be gained each week by simply eating 170 extra calories at each meal. These 170 calories can take on the form of an extra helping of cheesy spaghetti, a salad drenched in creamy dressing, or a small, innocent-looking dessert. College cafeterias are lurking with excess calories that are on a mission to end up on your unsuspecting tray. Cafeteria Weight Loss Tip #1: Ditch your tray. Instead of loading up an entire tray with multiple plates of food, desserts and beverages stick with just a simple plate. This will prevent you from overeating, since more food than can fit on one plate is probably more food than you need. 2. Main Dish Mayhem College cafeterias are notorious for serving main dishes that are less than nutritious. Cheese covered pizzas, pastas and casseroles often dominate the lunch menus while fried meats, potatoes, and fat laden roasts turn up at dinner. Any direction that you turn to, in a cafeteria, will find you staring straight into the pot of something fattening. Lets consider the extra fat and calories that are found in the main dishes that are typically served in the cafeteria. An average serving of lasagna has 550 calories and 22 grams of fat. Two slices of pizza have 540 calories and 28 grams of fat. A serving of fried chicken has 480 calories and 26 grams of fat. When you consistently eat main dishes like these that are high in fat and extra calories the only possible result is weight gain. Cafeteria Weight Loss Tip #2: Eat only a small serving of the main dish. This will prevent you from eating an extreme amount of excess calories, since the main dishes are usually very rich in calories and fat. Fill the rest of your plate with fresh vegetables and whole grains. 3. Desserts Galore What is a visit to the cafeteria without topping it off with a mouthwatering dessert? Cookies, brownies, cakes, pies and ice cream are often just what you need to get your mind off of that exam that you need to study for. Women are especially prone to indulging at the dessert bar, due to their chocolate-loving, sweet teeth! What most students do not realize is how quickly these extra calories add up, resulting in weight gain. A typical large cookie contains over 200 calories and 15 grams of fat. A typical brownie can pack over 400 calories and 25 grams of fat. These are often the calories that end up pushing you over your daily caloric needs, resulting in fat storage around your waist, hips and thighs. Cafeteria Weight Loss Tip #3: Limit the number of desserts you eat each week. Rather than grabbing a cookie or brownie everyday, designate a day or two each week as your dessert day. This will prevent daily extra calories, and will make the desserts you do eat more enjoyable. The next time that you are in line at the cafeteria pay attention to what ends up on your plate. Remember that most college weight gain is a result of a mismanaged diet.
